Y’all I am in desperate need of help for ideas 😭 I want to write a novel (or novelette) throughout the summer, and I want to get started, but no ideas are coming to me. I want it to be a psychological thriller (maybe also horror), because I have general ideas, but no plots, conflicts, or characters are coming to mind. :,)

A haggard detective searching post apocalyptic for his infant son. An illegally modded humanoid robot gone rogue. A diseased ancestor living under the floor boards, but the disease also makes them functionally immune to aging. A girl who goes on a mission to do the most charitable acts possible to improve her college CV, but acquires a stalker along the way. A priest who drops out of seminary school to pursue a cross country paranormal investigation and gets adopted into a troubled group.

I'm also working on a psychological thriller (existentially haunting) novella this summer! I got the idea while reading my half-written novels and searching for a recurring character voice. This method almost always works to spark ideas for me. [I'm good with names, so here's a random name idea for literally any character (lol) - Aoifa.] Btw, what is a novelette? If I'm not wrong, it's similar to a novella(?)
Oh that's awesome! That's a good idea actually, maybe I'll go through some of my short stories and half-written novels as well to do that, thanks for that idea! Also, that name sounds so majestic! To answer your question- there are two parts: first, I had just woken up about 15 minutes before posting this and was still somewhat waking up, so I actually meant anything between a novelette and a novel; second, a novelette is similar to a novella but a little shorter.
Something I've been wanting to write, but might not ever get to, is an idea of a detective that investigates cold cases with a time-viewing device. He also uses it to reminisce the good-old days, only to find that his wife and child were actually murdered....[[|:-)
I actually really like the idea of time traveling just for cold cases, and connecting it to a personal conflict is awesome! Idk if I’ll take the idea exactly, because it is yours, of course, but I may borrow some concepts! Thanks for the comment!!

Maybe not so much for plot - but I like to go on a walk around the neighborhood and find details in the mundane that can help either start a story, ie describing how a character describes a statue), or build upon an idea, ie watching ant piles (inspo for conflict). Sometimes characters will populate themselves into the world as you start to set the scene!
Yeah I also love doing that: going out in public and just giving an unbiased description of something. Maybe I will try to get out to do that more often to start brewing ideas. Thanks!
Depending on how you feel about doing a retelling of something, that's an option to give you characters and basic structure. You'd have a lot of room for doing your own thing with it, though. For example, a modern retelling of "Hamlet" from Ophelia's point of view could be a psychological thriller that is so different from the original that readers wouldn't know what to expect.
That is a really interesting idea, and im actually doing this same thing for Dracula by Bram Stoker through a collection of poems back and forth from Dracula and Van Helsing. Thanks for another thing to ponder!
