For everything, down to the scribbles.
For everything, down to the scribbles.
I started writing a new story late March, and as of today it’s still not finished. I’ve written only 3,227 words, and I haven’t reached the middle part just yet. I think it might be a short long story. Anyway, I used to rush stories so I can share them quickly, but I realize I should just let it sit for a while, let it ferment a bit, and then I’ll go over it again with fresh eyes. How long does it take you to write a story?

I never know how long it will take. Sometimes it's only a few hours. Sometimes it's more than a month. I usually have two going when it's taking longer so I can walk away from one for a while and work on the other one.
The micro fiction arrives in a moment and if I don't write soon after, it's gone. Everything else takes time. Plus working on the same story daily doesn't fit me. Sometimes, it takes even longer to figure out where I'm going or how to fix the fact that it doesn't sound right. And I'm still learning how to resist the lure of the dopamine hit in posting it. But yeah... from weeks to years sounds about right.
Bing bang boom - then let it stew a month - bing bang boom - repeat. Anywhere from a few weeks to a few months
