🦋 National Poetry Month🦋 Day 21 Alouette Yesterday I shared a poem and called it an Alouette, but I had the rhyme wrong. Today I fix that properly. The Alouette, created by Jan Turner, is made up of two or more six line stanzas, following a steady rhythm of 5, 5, 7, 5, 5, 7 syllables, with a rhyme scheme of a, a, b, c, c, b. ▪◽▪ Peppermint delights Sticky gumdrop bites molten toffee gleaming gold Taffy twisting slow syrup starts to flow All those chocolate bars to hold Honeyed figs in glass A dark truffle mass Licorice in slender jars Fruit chews set in rows The Candyman knows We are lured by sugared stars ▪◽▪
