🦋 National Poetry Month🦋 Day 8: 5-7-5-7-6 jitarazu tanka Jitarazu is a Japanese poetic term that means “short of characters.” It’s what happens when a haiku or tanka falls just short of the traditional 5-7-5 or 5-7-5-7-7 rhythm by a beat. In my tanka I hold that missing beat in the final line. 5-7-5-7-6 ▪️▫️▪️ Rain taps on green leaves a rhythm I almost know from another time we kissed beneath that old tree and forgot the world there ▪️▫️▪️
