🦋 National Poetry Month🦋 Day 7: Tanka Jiamari Jiamari is a Japanese poetic term that means “extra sounds.”It’s what happens when a haiku or tanka steps outside the 5-7-5 or 5-7-5-7-7 rhythm with an extra beat. In my tanka I do the extra beat in line four. 5-7-5-8-7 ▪️▫️▪️ Caught in sudden rain we run laughing to the tree branches shake above you pull me close and we dance there rain falls through the leaves above ▪️▫️▪️

I learned about tanka last year, but had not heard of jiamari!

there is also jitarazu which is one beat less. I'l writing a Tanka jitarazu tomorrow followed by day 9 & 10 the haiku jiamari and haiku jitarazu
