I do this all the damned time. I make notes but at the time of inspiration cause if I don't it's gone. Only I never carry a device or notebook so end up scribbling chickenscratch on whatever scrap I can snatch up from nearby. Later I have very little idea of what it says let alone what I was going to do with it. Those become my lost million dollar ideas.

Well, when I have a PC, I use Oblivion for my notes, which is a really cool program, but I have over thirty years of written notes, most of which are not annotated as to what they pertain. I keep them around, because occasionally they fit somewhere or inspire more thoughts....[[|:-)

I love the "eventually they'll fit somewhere". I leave mine just loose and never pick them back up, which is probably a mistake.
