Someone out there could greatly contribute to the advancement of humankind by figuring out a doggie lexicon, so people could say (or woof), "I know that thing around your head is a pain, but it is to prevent you from licking your stitches. Try to bear with it the best you can for a few more days." Alas, no such lexicon exists to my knowledge, so I suppose it is a shared tribulation for a few more days.
