Why I Write
The thoughts are coming! The thoughts are coming!
Looking back, I've been a writer for most of my life. Ms. Dolan, my homeroom teacher in sixth grade, had us write stories often. As a teenager, I would write more dark, and sometimes suicidal, poetry.
It really wasn't until I started to develop a campaign for D&D. The problem was, I was in Iowa, and there weren't a lot of players in my area. I had developed a party of NPCs that were mid-tier for when the main party would need rescuing.
I loved the characters so much that I began to write a story for them that would be events leading up to when the players would play. It was meant to be a tetralogy, but I only got so far with it. Maybe some day I'll finish it.
I put all of that on the back burner for a while until one of my exes convinced me to design my own tabletop role-playing game. I did that for a while, but it's even harder to find people to want to play test a TTRPG.
When I signed up for Wattpad, I started taking writing more seriously. I saw it as a way to promote my game by giving people an idea of the kinds of characters you can play in the game. So, I wrote, The Creation of Xyphus: The Supernova of Dega; book one of a science fiction series explaining the back history of Xyphus, the setting for Cloak & Laser. I started Cloak & Laser when I was on Kindle Vella, but organic reads on there at that time were near zero.
I had meant to submit The Creation of Xyphus to The Wattys, but when I finished it close to the deadline, I then realized that they wanted a summary, too. I gave up because the story is so complex with time travel along with being intertwined with the story I've been writing about Dr. Pherringer whose equations allow him to invent time travel, but also be responsible for the bombs that create the post-apocalyptic setting for Xyphus.
The main reason I write, is that my brain never stops thinking. When I think of the characters I design, I literally get movies playing in my head—well, at least scenes, and I do my best to describe what I see. I sometimes wish we had Strange Days technology so I could record them.
Anyways, I've written three other books, and have a slew of WIPs and ideas. I'll probably eventually share it all here….[[|:-)
Thank you so much for reading. I hope you have a wonderful day….[[|:-)

Your story is truly interesting! The thing about our personal stories is that it makes us understand the person behind the words, connecting their work with their story of life. “ The main reason I write, is that my brain never stops thinking. When I think of the characters I design, I literally get movies playing in my head-well, at least scenes, and I do my best to describe what I see.” this is so true to me too! I thank you for being the first to submit on my prompt and participating in it✨🫂
