The leaves of wheat attempt the melody
of lilting clouds on turquoise sky, the tune
of wind one’d bottle, sell as all of June—
only to crack on the loam, rattle the
worms so soft against digits
of exposed phalanges in the blind
of sun, who shines with no mind
to what notes our verdant instruments play.
This poem is an ekphrastic piece inspired by this Van Gogh painting from the National Gallery of Art. I decided to do another ekphrastic piece after reading Saint Trey Wooden’s prompt for today:
