To the Future You
Mar 19, 2026 · 2 min read
Maya thought she was just mourning her best friend, until a ghost in her inbox reveals they were supposed to be a love story.
Amalia "Maya" Quinn survived the eulogy. Now, she just has to survive her junior year at Blackwood University without Teagan—her best friend.
To the outside world, Teagan Myers’s suicide was a shock. She had unconditionally loving parents, a dedicated psychiatrist, and a future in architecture. But Maya knows the quiet, exhausting reality of the depression Teagan fought for years. What Maya doesn’t know is how much Teagan left unsaid.
While Maya packs up her best friend’s off-campus studio, Teagan's laptop chimes. It’s an email from Teagan to her future self, written exactly one year ago.
It isn’t the only one.
Over the next few months, Maya is pulled back into the timeline of Teagan’s—and her own—past. As the delayed emails periodically hit the inbox, Maya is trapped as a passive observer who has to grieve over and over again as she relives the past through Teagan’s eyes.
But she doesn’t want the letters to stop.
Maya is caught between moving forward and clinging to the ghost in her inbox, terrified of the day the final email arrives and the notification bar stops pinging with Teagan’s name—the only link to her almost lover.

Author's note/s:
Hi! I''m already warning you, this is going to be a gut-wrenching sad story. I actually came up with this concept on a whim because an email popped up from my past self to my present self haha. The chapters are going to be linked here and will come soon! I plan to start uploading chapters next week (probably mid-week as opposed to Poison and Cure's end-of-week updates). Anyway, prepare tissues and happy reading!
