The Realmwalkers: Intro Part 6
Jaya had just begun to blink as Sarkis blipped them back to The Unrealm, and so, to her, it seemed even more instantaneous. It startled her a bit and caused her to shake her head a few times. Looking up at the ruined skyscrapers, she suddenly understood the dichotomy of Earth, or at least that there’s a vast polarization of wealth. On her world, the polarization is with power as, in most kingdoms, there are checks and balances to assure that the polarization of wealth is not too great.
Jaya had a slightly creased brow as she turned to Sarkis, and she had just enough time to crease it further as he put a short, metallic rod that had a handle he gripped up to her temple and she heard a click, then immediately a very brief crackling pain. To her, it felt like he had injected something into her brain. She instinctively backed up and put her hand to her left temple. “What di–” she went to ask, but she felt a warming sensation in her brain just as everything she could see began to become fuzzy, but then she realized that she was seeing individual atoms. At the same time, she felt as though she was swimming through nothingness, almost like allowing yourself to drift in an undulating current keeping you in place.
It made it difficult for her to really focus, which in turn was making her feel seasick. She never did like boats. Just as she thought she might vomit, the feeling and vision quickly subsided, as did the fever. Despite her sight returning to normal, she still felt a bit woozy. She scrunched her eyes and moaned before asking, “Okay, what in Haos was that?”
“My apologies, but I felt it necessary for you to be able to blip–as you call it. You are now the first Realmwalker.”
Her expression relaxed as she raised her eyebrows and her eyes went wide. Then she suddenly looked confused. “Wait, you mean I can go anywhere?”
“Anywhere in any time, though you have to know about the place.”
To Sarkis, Jaya didn’t move, but her expression went from confusion creeping into understanding before it instantaneously changed to a thousand yard stare with a tear just beginning its journey down her cheek on both sides. She couldn’t see it, but he raised his eyebrow, impressed with how she had pinpointed the moment from when she left. “And what did we learn?”
Jaya barely blinked, causing her tears to expedite their trip down her cheeks to fall from her jawline. “My, God is beautiful.”
“Yes, it is. Consciousness is all.”
Her focus returned to look at Sarkis and she huffed as she remembered him referring to himself as: He Who Touches The One. She now understood that, “The One” refers to God. What a gift that must be, she thought as she smirked at him.
“It certainly feels that way in the beginning. God is… curious. All the time.”
Jaya giggled, finally wiping away the tears. “I guess I would be, too, if I couldn’t directly interact with the reality I created.”
“Yes, the one caveat to being God. It is why there are always messengers. Are you ready for your training, or do you need more ‘time’?”
Jaya took on a thoughtful expression, taking a moment to reminisce where and when she had gone. “Well, I got to meet King Argonis, and, boy, was he just the most polite gentleman, even when I told him that I was from another time. I don't think he really believed me, but he didn’t look at me like I was crazy. You know, he used to ride his horse where we had our farm.”
“Yes, I believe your town didn’t even exist in his time.”
“And then, I went to see my birth. Did you really build that incubator? It was magnificent.”
Sarkis huffed a contemptuous laugh. “If only God saw it the way you did. God is–how do you say it–extremely black and white. There is no grey area, as it leaves that to reality.”
Jaya smirked. “Well, I’m very grateful. It makes me feel very special.”
“That you are, and feel free to let it go to your head. You are going to need that confidence.”
Her smirk quickly waned as her anxiety spiked a little. She slightly squinted her eyes as she asked, “So, how long will this training be?”
“To you, it may take years, but in the Temporal Nexus, time flows differently.” He then lightly groaned and checked his wound.
“You should put a bandage on it. Subdermal layers are not meant to see the light of day.”
“Yes, you are right. It has been a very long time since I have been wounded. Until now, the only danger in The Leyline of Creations are the souls drifting out of their pattern.”
“Hmh. That actually sounds like a very boring job.”
“The most.”
Jaya giggled, but then got serious again. “So, can that device you have bandage it?”
“Well, it can manifest one.” He then grabbed it. “Here. You are capable of using it now that you have those magech nanobots.”
Jaya gasped as she quickly moved to him to grab it. Once in her hand, a highly detailed three-dimensional hologram hovered over it, displaying a menu of options. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, however, she seemed to innately know it, which allowed her to quickly find the healing spells, then the correct one. When she pushed the button, a large roll of gauze was suddenly in her other hand. It was gauze like she had never seen with a very tight weave, and as she unraveled a bit, she noted how flexible it was.
She didn’t gawk over it for too long before helping Sarkis apply it. When the end came around, though, she paused to look at the microscopic hooks built into the end. She suddenly realized that the nanobots were allowing her to see incredibly fine details. “This must be the best gauze in all of Creation.”
“Yes. It is from Earth not long before this disaster.”
“Why did they target Earth? From the knowledge you gave me, they were barely getting into space travel. Hardly a threat to those beings.”
“Yes, well, they chose it to get my attention. I fell in love with Earth when I first visited, and they knew it would break my heart, and now they have broken my soul.”
Jaya pursed her lips and looked out at what was Earth. She took a deep breath and sighed her exhale. “Well, then I think I’m ready for my training.”
“Splendid. Any questions?”
“Just one. Is that what you really look like under that mask?”
Sarkis chuckled. “No. I chose that visage for your father. A character he admires from a story, that is all.”
