The Realmwalkers: Intro Part 4
It took a moment for Jaya to fully wake up and open her eyes. Her head suddenly hurt in two places. The back of her head from her faint, and the less intense burning sensation on the right side of her scalp. Her hand went straight to the goose egg on the back of her skull as she lifted her head slowly.
At first, her vision wasn’t clear, and for a moment, she thought she had just had a strange dream. She rubbed her eyes as she sat up, and as soon as she saw The Leywalker laid out on his back, the memories flooded her, especially the strange face of that creature, giving her a chill down her spine and causing both spots on her head to intensify. She had to pause for a bit to wince in pain.
She was slow to get up as every time she moved her head too fast, the pain would flare up. She groaned as she twisted to her hands and knees to rise more carefully. She did feel a bit woozy as she stood, but it was mild and she knew she had to assess The Leywalker. She now understood not only just how important his life is, but that he is immortal and shouldn’t be able to die, and yet, there he was, dying from a bleeding wound.
When she crouched next to him, it looked like just a small open wound, but the blood was very dark red, almost black but with tiny sparkles as though it was mixed with a bit of glitter. As she focused harder, she then noticed that they were very tiny lights going out as the pooling blood was bereft of them. She’s nursed a lot of pigs and chickens and a few of her own scrapes and bruises, but The Leywalker had not given her all of the details about him, or even this place in The Unrealm. She felt like a fish out of water.
It was then that she noticed, although barely, a tiny dart-like object hovering in and out of the wound. However, every time she tried to focus on it, her eyes would go out of focus, causing her to readjust them to look at it again. It was only about two inches long with pointed ends and a spindly structure. It looked black, but then had a silvery sheen, then a dull cobalt sheen. She couldn’t really discern a color. It was making her head hurt the more she tried to focus on it.
It then dawned on Jaya that this was somehow what caused his wound, and as she went to grab it, her fingers stopped at some kind of invisible boundary about a half inch around it, and it felt fuzzy but firm to the touch. The fuzziness intensified into a prickling as she squeezed and pulled it out. Just as she did, The Leywalker awakened and screamed out and his hand bumped hers as he put it to the wound, causing her to drop the tiny dart and fall back in surprise.
His scream sounded strange, not only from the mask, but it sounded like many voices screaming together in some kind of freakish harmony. It was unsettling to hear, not to mention that it seemed to make her right scalp flare up. She was relieved when it finally stopped and The Leywalker settled on groaning.
“Are you going to be okay now?” She asked.
“Mmmm, maybe, but I may have fucked up.”
Jaya was taken aback, surprised by him using a curse word, even though before this, she didn’t know that word. “Ho–How do you mean?”
The Leywalker groaned as he lifted his head to look at the wound before letting his head fall back with a quivering sigh. “I… may have underestimated them.”
“Them who?”
“Th–ahh–the one you saw was one of them.”
“What are they?”
“They are a plague; a cancer that has affected all of Creation. They must be stopped.”
Jaya watched as he reached into his cloak to retrieve the device from before. Seeing it first-hand didn’t confuse her like she had expected. She now understood that it was technology; very advanced technology that The Leywalker had designed himself. She also understood that it also uses magic; stored spells that can be manipulated and cast at the touch of a button.
“What was that thing in your wound?” She asked as he prepared to use the device on it.
“It is infinite, the rarest element in all of Creation. Created only by a trinary black hole cluster, of which only two are in existence. Its energy is so strong that you cannot actually touch it itself. It is the only known substance capable of killing an immortal such as myself. You are one of but a few that can wield it.”
The Leywalker then groaned loudly as the device tried to heal his wound, but seemed to fail, though the bleeding stopped. The Leywalker let out another quivering sigh that was interrupted by coughing that wouldn’t stop until he rolled over to cough up a bit of blood that sparkled but for a moment. His next inhale was ragged and hissed through his mask and teeth.
Jaya then realized that his mask must also be what he calls: magech, allowing his breath and fluids to come out, but most likely filtering what goes in.
“You’re dying, aren’t you?”
“Ahem, yes, albeit, agonizingly slow.”
“There’s no way to heal that wound, is there?”
“You cannot heal what no longer exists.”
Her heart dropped, not only from the fact that his life is doomed, but also remembering those that that creature destroyed in The Glade. She understood now that there can be no energy lost, but it was happening. Lights have been extinguished.
“So, how do we stop them?” She asked as she stood. “They’re the ones responsible for destroying this place too, am I right?”
The Leywalker sat and crossed his legs before responding, “Yes, and you and I are going to have to come up with a new plan.”
“Wait, you want me to help you with a plan? I thought I was going to be your warrior wielding an infinite sword or something.”
“In due time, but first, you must meet your father.”
“But I kn–” she began before she realized she knew that her parents from her world adopted her. “I… was adopted?”
“You were born of the seed of a man that lived here, or rather, my memory of it the last time I visited, and you were gestated in a special incubator.”
“Wait, so I have no mother?”
“Consciousness, or God, is your mother. The answer to the proverbial question of the chicken or the egg, well, the simplest form had to occur first. You were born of what is called an Immaculate Egg.”
Jaya was awestruck. She was born of a God–the God. She always knew there was something else to her, as though her light shone stronger than everyone else’s. Something that had kept evil at bay. A line they won’t cross, though, it felt like that creature was ready to cross it. “So, when do I get to meet him?”
