The Grasshopper's Response
The sun is shining on the green
A blessed rich pastoral scene
And I the hopper gliding high
Sing, "Praise the lord!" for all I spy
When a voice calls out below
From ants who scurry to and fro
"Summers ending," so they say
"Build all your wealth to store away."
Yet is it wisdom to advise
A wasted life in work despised
When youth is spent in slavery
Then only those who die are free
Much better they who look above
For all they need and all they love
To seek and in God's will abide
Then share the blessings set aside
So have your fences painted white
Work far from family every night
All your preparing seems to me
A fear filled life of tragedy
I do not expect a paupers home,
But even should I die alone
When I look back old and gray
The grasshopper enjoyed his day
