Right Thing Might Sting
A freezing tempt,
That enticing, shocking pull,
You make an attempt,
To calm the chaos to lull.
Someone is dying,
A desperate gasp at breath,
On pavement they’re lying,
Glimpsing their own death.
Their eyes draw you near,
A silent, yearnful pleading,
Yet you shake in fear,
More confidence you’re needing.
Still you must assist,
Empathy forcing your hand,
It’s so hard to resist,
To help your fellow man.
Despite what you know,
And how you saved their life,
Authorities will show,
Contempt and give you strife.
For the naive it’s a trap,
A ruse or blinding veil,
Cuffs on wrists they slap,
And haul you off to jail.
