Perception Shapes Your Reality
Two people can see the same world differently.

I love getting my perception challenged.
Every time it gets challenged, I learn something new, either about the topic or about the person.
Talking to new people, offline or online, in my locality or in another country, is worth it.
And this is one of the biggest reasons why I want to travel the world instead of staying in one place.
A few days ago, I read something from a boy, young, kind, but confused:
“Why is the dove considered a symbol of beauty while the crow is considered a symbol of ugliness, when both are unaware of their respective qualities?”
Do I have an answer for it? No. But it gave birth to so many thoughts that I almost spiraled.
Before diving into the main topic, I will ask a question:
What is a debate?
Just two people trying to prove their perception right.
If you have ever heard, read, or taken part in one, have you noticed that most of the time both sides are just two sides of the same coin?
Like the debate on whether AI is better or not, it is basically just listing pros and cons. Is there anything in this world that does not have those two things? No.
But do we still fight over it in social media comment sections? Yes.
Sometimes I feel it is useless because it is already invented, and all we can do is adapt and stop it from engulfing our creativity.
Okay, back to the main topic, perception.
What is perception?
A term used to describe a person’s lens.
You all might have read this line already: “A lion is a protector for plants.”
See the difference? Everything is about perception.
Herbivores are safe for us humans, while predators are harmful to us, and hence we consider them bad. But for plants, it is the opposite, herbivores are harmful.
As the quote goes:
Your perception of me is a reflection of you.
Stick this quote on your bathroom door and engrave it in your mind, and I guarantee your life will be a bit easier.
If you are still confused about how it will help, just know this:
A rabbit who thinks the sky is red will always argue with a crow who says the sky is blue.
And this is why we need to normalize accepting opinions.
I will give you one more example:
Fyodor Dostoevsky and Franz Kafka.
Both of their writings are often contrasting and conflicting, but is it right to prove one of them invalid or false?
No, because both have their own perceptions, opinions, and theories.
Just like that, instead of fighting over who is correct, many disputes can be solved by simply accepting that both can be correct in their own ways.
I am not saying both will always be correct, just like in the example of the rabbit and the crow.
We all know the crow is correct, but the rabbit will not accept it because ego and self respect come into play. And at that point, people will do anything to prove themselves right.
If you ever get stuck in situations like this, just step back and preserve your energy. Let them be.
Trust me, you will not lose anything. Calm people possess more power than those who are loud just to gain respect and feed their ego.
That is all for today. So please, just delete the comment or block the person who is trying to pick a fight.
It is okay, I know it is exhausting, but please save your energy. Those are leeches.
Thank you,
This is Sera Casanova,
Wishing you a blissful night,

My apologies. I didn’t realize “Perception” was the title of the piece you were suggesting. “Sometimes I feel it is useless because it is already invented, and all we can do is adapt and stop it from engulfing our creativity.” Isn’t this a reason to discuss it? If we were to transplant “AI” in your analogy with, say, an asteroid hurtling toward our planet, would you find the discussion of solutions foolhardy… or a natural reaction?
Indeed I agree with so many things! There have been some people for example that have wanted to impose their ideas to me rather than listen to what I have to say and honestly I have learned even from those people. I say that the truth is that…there is no truth. I liked the idea about AI that you mentioned. We all discuss about something and it is because we come from different world, projecting different angles is the entire world. It is like we all have a puzzle piece that once in contact with all the rest of the pieces form what we know as the truth. Even this post made me project my own thoughts and opinions that come from my own world!
Unfortunately many people are not taught to accept more than one reality. They are taught to support only one pole of the discussion and they hang by it with their life. Because, if they dont, they will meet a world they are not safe. And surviving for them feels more important than living…thank you for this post! Made me write sth in this platform after some days
