Idle Cave
They walked deeper into the cave, now only lit by the small light from their mobile phone torches, knowing they must be closer to the finding the treasure.
“It must be down here somewhere” Clara said excitedly.
“Ugh, but where, we’ve been walking down here for over an hour and this creepy cave just keeps going” sighed a now rather despondent Sarah.
“We should head back if we don’t find anything soon” moaned Jason who really did not want to be this far underground. They had no idea how far the cave went, how dangerous it might get or even, what was at the end of the cave. There had always been a myth at the high school that if you could make it to the end of “Idle Cave” that your reward would be all the gold you could carry back. The cave had narrowed a lot and they were all now walking crouched down, hunched backs and aching knees, with no sign of the end.
The temperature in the cave had been steady until recently when it fell sharply. Drops of water were now dripping from the ceiling and making the floor very slippery to stay upright. The cave then came to an end with a flat wall and a pool of water, about 3 metres in diameter that looked like it was more of a puddle than a pool.
“Is this it” Jason cried out “can we go back now?”
“No way” exclaimed Clara, “where is the gold, we made it! It must be here somewhere!”
Sarah looked down at the puddle “I think we need to go through there”
They all shown their phone torches into the water and peered in.
