I am Watching
A poem based on an Ira Robinson painting.

The little ones sleep soft and soundless,
Deep within the knoll.
For I am watching, like the moonlight,
Nightly on patrol.
With my fierce, ferocious sneer,
Armored to the hilt,
I scare away all who might dare
Damage what I’ve built.
Protector, father, leader—I and
All who came before;
We keep our family’s safe to see
The dawn again, once more.
The little ones sleep soft and soundless,
Deep within the knoll.
For I am watching, like the moonlight,
Nightly on patrol.
