Deer skull part I

There is a deer skull complete

with pearly antlers sitting

on my neighbors back porch

I am not a vegan

But I am not a hunter either

I eat celery with my meat

Though not deer meat

because I have a personal connection

to them spiritually

I just feel bad

that the deer won’t see spring

Her body will haunt

my neighbors fridge

bleeding her memory

into their green apples

and when they take a bite

with their pearly white teeth

they will be reminded of her very last scream
