Detached
Plummets
Buried
Begins
Winds shear the husk
Leaves smother the remains
Every root, one mission
How to extract life?
Growing around a hollow center
Creatures only stay for shade
Every neighbor, a metal fence
Each branch, intertwined in mesh
Spring deluge - bark scraped, peeled off
Each ring, bought by its scars
Every stoma, trading present for future
The crown peeks at the horizon
To cast shadows longer than life
Roots retracting, growing into the glare
What will make this worth it?
A mast, freshly sewn sails
Structure, shaping house to home
Instruments, harmonies outgrowing their wood
As long as I’m useful
No shipwright ever called
No architect left notes
No craftsman prepared plans
Winter followed Autumn, hollow
Firewood
Chopped
Relief
Detached
